Panjagutta: Drunk carjacker hits pedestrians; held after hot chase

Hyderabad: Several people were injured when an inebriated carjacker tried to speed away after being chased by the owner at Panjagutta.

According to Panjagutta police, Aamir Ali had booked a car using the Zoom App a few days prior and did not return it to the rightful owner Mohan Reddy. This prompted Reddy to file a complaint at the SR Nagar Police Station as he desperately searched for his missing vehicle throughout the city.

The situation took a dramatic turn on a Friday evening when Mohan Reddy along with his friend Harish, spotted a stolen car passing by. They chased Ali on their two-wheeler. However, Ali sped away causing havoc as he drove towards Panjagutta.

In the meantime, Ali lost control of the stolen vehicle, resulting in several pedestrians being injured. Undeterred, he abandoned the car and attempted to flee, only to fall and injure himself. Reddy and Harish managed to apprehend Ali near Agarwal Hospital, where they questioned him about the altered number plate. Ali admitted to intentionally changing it to avoid detection.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ali had tampered chassis number of the vehicle. Ali was then shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment.

A case was registered under Section 279 (rash driving), Section 336 (endangering life or personal safety), Section 420 (cheating), and Sections 183, and 184 of the MV Act.
