Paradise to Rasoolpura road to be opened today

Post-2020 floods, GHMC has started remodeling Picket Nala and Bridge on S.P.Road.

The Rs.10 crore project will be inaugurated on Friday.

During heavy rains in 2020, some parts of the city were inundated. To prevent inundation in the future, 60 works at the cost of Rs 985 crore were taken up. Of which GHMC will carry out 37 works. Nearly 23 works will be carried out by Various Corporations around the city. Around 58 works have commenced. Priority is given to those areas which are prone to inundation.

About 77.56 KMs of length nala works are in progress. Some of these roads fall in surrounding Municipalities as well.

Here are some of the features of the remodeling work

Background of the Project:

Most of the colonies in the Begumpet area were inundated during the 2020 monsoon due to a bottleneck on Picket Nala at Road Crossing near Karachi bakery on S.P Road.

Cause of inundation and Present condition of road crossing:

Presently, half of the road crossing on Nala (on the cantonment side) is with a pipe culvert, and the other half towards Karachi bakery is with an RCC slab bridge with CRS abutments/piers. Thus a bottleneck is formed which is causing inundation of upstream areas.

Project proposal:

Construction of RCC Minor bridge with Box Cell Structure (Twin cells of 8.0mX3.455m size each).

Administrative Sanction: Rs.10 crore. Cost of the Project: Rs. 10 Cr

Objective:

To remove the bottleneck on Picket Nala on SP Road and provide relief to flood-prone areas of Secunderabad cantonment board besides avoiding loss of life and properties.

Areas getting benefitted:

Around 100 colonies of Secunderabad Cantonment Board will be benefited. Mainly, Anna Nagar Basthi & Rasoolpura Basthi which are among the largest slums in Asia, BHEL Colony, ICRISAT colony, Soujanya colony, and parts of Bowenpally.

No of households getting relief:

Around 8000
