Hyderabad: The Rachakonda commissioner of police on Saturday invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against two notorious chain offenders from Nalgonda district. They were detained in Central prison, Cherlapally.
The two men, Kethavath Narsingh alias Nari (25) and Islavath Vignesh alias Ganesh (19), used to work in hotels and private firms. To make money, they hatched a plan to snatch gold chains from women and sell them to pawnbrokers. They would go around the colonies in their motorbike and target elderly women.
In April this year they committed two offences within days of each other in the limits of Meerpet police station under the Rachakonda commissionerate. They also attacked the women when they tried to resist.
They two have been engaged in similar offences, snatching gold chains from women in the streets. Based on a tip-off, the Meerpet police on 17 June arrested them and recovered seven tolas of gold ornaments, two motorcycles, and two cell phones from their possession. They were remanded to judicial custody.
To prevent the two from committing such offences in the area, an order of detention under the PD Act was issued against them by Mahesh M. Bhagwat, the commissioner of police, Rachakonda.
