Hyderabad: The Cyberabad commissioner of police on Monday invoked the Preventive Detention Act against five persons who had murdered a man in broad daylight in the Mailardevpally police station limits.

The five accused - Yaseen Ali Khan (23), Mohammad Adnan (23), Abdul Ali (22), Mohammad Mahaboob (20), and Mohammad Shoaib (20) ā€“ were detained and lodged in Cherlapalli Central prison in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, Telangana. All are residents of Rangareddy district.

According to the police, Yaseen Ali's elder brother was married to the victim Md. Asad Khan's second daughter. However, he had divorced her. Upset by the divorce, Asad Khan had killed Yaseen Ali's father in 2018 and was sent to Jail. Yaseen Ali, meanwhile, had made plans to kill Asad Khan with the help of his associates Adnan, Abdul Ali, Mohammad Mahaboob, Mohammed Saddam, and Mohammad Shoaib.

On 1 April 2021, Yaseen Ali and the five men attacked Asad Khan with sickles and knives. The latter sustained severe injuries on his head and back and died on the spot. A case was registered against the accused in Mailardevpally police station. On 3 April, the Mailardevpally police arrested the accused persons and seized three knives, 2 two hunting sickles, an auto-rickshaw, and mobile phones from them. They were remanded to judicial custody.

With a view to preventing them from indulging in criminal activities again, V.C Sajjanar, the Cyberabad commissioner of police invoked the PD Act against on Monday and lodged them in Cherlapally central prison.
