Peacock census: KBR National Park, Hyderabad houses 565 birds

Hyderabad: A recent census conducted by the Telangana forest department has revealed the presence of 565 peacocks at Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) National Park in Hyderabad.



The headcount carried out on November 19, involved a collaborative effort from various organizations and volunteers led by the forest department.

The initiative aimed to enhance the understanding and management of the park's biodiversity. Eighty-four individuals formed six teams, navigating the park's expanse of 390 acres in the heart of the city.

Supervised by CCF Charminar Saidulu, DFO Hyderabad M. Joji, and the forest range officer, along with KBR Park staffers, the census sought to provide valuable insights into the park's peacock population.

Organizations and volunteers contributing to the census included FCRI students, Friends of Snake Society, WWF, Deccan Birders, NGOs, and KBR walkers. This diverse group played a pivotal role in ensuring the success and accuracy of the peacock headcount.
