Hyderabad: The Cyberabad SHE teams received 147 complaints in October of which the highest number, 57, was regarding phone harassments, followed by stalking and WhatsApp harassment calls.

One such victim of phone harassment is Sravani (name changed), a resident of Raidurgam in Hyderabad, who was harassed by a bank manager. The woman had approached a bank in Manikonda to cancel her insurance policy. There, Sravani met Anand, the assistant bank manager, who sought her details. Though she refused, he managed to get her phone number from the bank and started calling her.

Frightened by the calls, Sravani approached the Cyberabad police. Acting on her complaint, the SHE teams apprehended the assistant bank manager. This, however, is not a standalone case. The SHE teams have received a total of 147 complaints from women through WhatsApp, email, Hawkeye, and direct walk-ins. Apart from this, the teams have received 82 calls through Dial 100 immediate response teams.

The SHE teams have also conducted decoy operations to nab eve-teasers. On 16 November, the Chevella SHE team members disguised themselves and stood at the Chevella bus stop. There they apprehended Avusula Srihari alias Harish (23) who was caught making indecent moves and passing lewd comments.

According to the SHE teams, 31 cases have been registered out of which 11 are criminal cases and 20 are petty cases. In October, 277 decoy operations were conducted at various places such as bus stops, shopping malls, railway stations, and colleges. Regular counseling sessions were also held by the women and children safety wing.

The Cyberabad SHE team has requested all women victims of eve-teasing, stalking, or any other atrocity to approach the teams by sending a WhatApp message to 9490617444 or directly call the respective SHE teams or Dial 100 or send an e-mail to sheteam.cyberabad@gmail.com. They can also contact the SHE teams on Twitter (@sheteamcybd), Facebook (WomanandChildrenSafetyWing), and Instagram (womenandchildrensafetywingcybd).
