`Plan travel carefully’: IMD forecasts intense rain in Hyderabad, other districts on Friday, Saturday
Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad and several districts of Telangana.
The weatherman has warned of intense rainfall on Friday and Saturday.
IMD Forecast
According to IMD Hyderabad, the city is likely to experience rain or thundershowers, with spells of intense rainfall accompanied by gusty winds on Friday.
“The weather conditions indicate short but intense spells of rain over Hyderabad and adjoining districts. Citizens are advised to avoid low-lying areas and exercise caution while travelling,” K. S. Sridhar told NewsMeter.
The alert will remain in place for two days, covering both Friday and Saturday.
Thunderstorms across Telangana
Districts including Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Gadwal, Bhadradri–Kothagudem, Mulugu, Khammam, and Suryapet are expected to witness heavy rains. IMD has cautioned of thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls in parts of Telangana over the next two days.
“Thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds are likely at isolated places. People should stay indoors during lightning activity and secure loose objects outdoors,” said Sridhar.
Weather Enthusiast’s Forecast
Weather enthusiast T. Balaji, known for his accurate local forecasts, tweeted, “Moderate rains are expected in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Gadwal, Bhadradri–Kothagudem, Mulugu, Khammam, and Suryapet from late afternoon to night.”
Regarding Hyderabad, he added: “A spell of short, intense rains is likely in the city from late afternoon to night.”
Drop in Temperatures
Data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) shows a notable dip in temperatures following Thursday’s showers. The lowest temperature recorded in the state was 22.4°C in Medak, while Hyderabad’s minimum dropped to 24.9°C in Maredpally.
Advisory for Residents
With the yellow alert in place, authorities have advised residents of Hyderabad and other affected districts to plan their travel carefully and remain cautious in view of expected heavy rains and thunderstorms.
