Hyderabad: Why is suspended MLA Raja Singh's photograph on the party banners at Parade Ground?

Camouflaged in saffron color, his photograph is not easily visible at the two large circular buntings put up at Parade Ground.

Parade Ground is being readied for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8. PM Modi is to visit Telangana to lay the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 11,300 crore.

The party has put up posters all around Secunderabad. Metro rail pillars, the entrance of Parade Ground, and also other major junctions and locations are filled with banners and posters. All posters and banners do not have the picture of MLA Raja Singh. Only a select few of them are having his picture.

The main round ones which are put up outside Parade Grounds have Raja Singh in the middle with other senior party leaders of Telangana.

Political observer Palwal Raghavendra Reddy explains, "How much percentage of people remember that Raja Singh has been suspended by the party? Less than 5 percent. What happened after the suspension? The procession of Ram Navmi in Hyderabad speaks differently. Why is no BJP MLA able to do what Raja Singh does in Telangana in states like Madhya Pradesh or Uttar Pradesh? Political parties look for leveraging their voter base and if they find that these leaders are helping them, the acts of suspension are only for appeasement. The political parties look at their meetings as a show of strength and if the party is able to get people in large numbers it is also because these leaders play a major role and that's what it all that matters."

Suspended from BJP

On August 23, 2022, MLA Raja Singh was suspended from the BJP party.

The letter of suspension was signed by Om Pathak, member secretary, of the Central Disciplinary Committee of the BJP. The suspension was due to Singh’s controversial statements and outraging religious feelings about a particular religion.

BJP party stated that the views were contrary to the party’s position on various matters.
