Hyderabad: Cherlapally railway station virtually inaugurated by PM Modi

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has virtually inaugurated the much-awaited Cherlapally Railway terminal remotely from New Delhi on Monday. Trains to Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam will now depart from Cherlapally, reducing congestion at the Secunderabad station.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Union minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw joined in for the event virtually, while governor Jishnu Dev Varma, IT Minister D Sridhar Babu, Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay and Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajendar and others were present at the event held at the newly inaugurated terminal.

New stations to decrease load for local stations

After inaugurating the facility, PM Modi said that the Cherlapally New Terminal Station in the Medchal-Malkajgiri District has been developed as a new coaching terminal with provisions for a second entry at a cost of around Rs 413 crore. The newly inaugurated terminal would ease the pressure on existing stations in Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kachiguda, making travel more convenient for the people, he added.

ā€œThe newly inaugurated station, connected to the ORR, will significantly boost development in the region. The stationā€™s modern amenities including its platforms, lifts, escalators, solar-powered operations, among others, are a step forward in creating sustainable infrastructure,ā€ the prime minister said. He said that the terminal has been designed and built to accommodate the cityā€™s expanding population needs over the next 50 years.

Modern amenities

According to the South Central Railway (SCR) officials, the Cherlapally terminal has modern amenities like lifts, escalators, nine platforms and ample parking. The new station building, which has a modern architectural face, features six ticketing kiosks, separate waiting rooms for men and women, an upper-class waiting space and an executive lounge on the ground level. The first level will include a cafĆ©, restaurant, mother's feeding cabins and menā€™s and womenā€™s restrooms.

The terminal is already a halting point for nearly 25 pairs of trains, enabling 50 trains to operate daily. A total of 19 tracks have been provided, allowing for speedier access to essential locations.
