Posing as woman, IIIT grad promises to marry Secunderabad man; cheats him of Rs 1 Cr
On November 12, Cyber Crime Police received a complaint from Vijay Reddy, a resident of Secunderabad stating that he came in contact with Kalyani Sri through Facebook.

The accused have been identified as Yerragudla Dasu, 30, an IIIT grad-turned-fruit vendor, and Yerragudla Jyothi, 28 a private teacher.
On November 12, Cyber Crime Police received a complaint from Vijay Reddy, a resident of Secunderabad stating that he came in contact with Kalyani Sri through Facebook.
He started chatting with her and proposed to marry her. She told him that she will marry once her ancestral land issue is resolved. She told him that her deceased father has left some land and her brother wants to gobble it up. Therefore she wants to resolve this issue.
She requested him to pay her some amount. She promised that she would transfer a part of the land in his name once the issue is resolved. She also promised to marry him after the land is transferred in her name.
She introduced Madhusudhan as a matchmaker. She told him that he will arrange the wedding. She told him to transfer money for the registration of the land. Later, he deposited approximately Rs. one crore in her account.
Modus Operandi
According to police, the accused Yerragudla Dasu and Y. Jyothi are husband and wife. They belong to the Sattenapalli in the Guntur district.
Y. Dasu studied B-Tech from IIIT at Nuzvidu, Krishna Dist. After completion of his B-Tech in 2014, he joined TCS at Kondapur. He worked for six months. While he was doing his job, he got the habit of playing online rummy. The company management terminated him from the job since he was not attending to his duties.
In 2017, he married Y. Jyothi and stayed at his native place. He started farming on the leased land. In 2019, they shifted to Sattenapalli and started working as a fruit vendor. In 2019, online rummy was banned by the Andhra Pradesh government. So he started online cricket betting using betway, indibet, betdaddies, and other Apps.
In 2013, Yerragudla Dasu had opened a fake Facebook account with the user name Kalyani Sri and posed as a girl. He used to send friend requests and chat with them posing as a girl.
In May 2020, Vijay Reddy accepted his friend request. From that time onwards, he used to chat with him as a girl. During the lockdown period, he could not meet his lavish expenses. So he along with his wife hatched a plan to cheat Vijay Reddy on the pretext of marriage.
As per their plan, he started chatting with him and expressed willingness to marry him. After that Yerragudla Dasu posed as Kalyani Sri and told him about the land issue.
Vijay Reddy deposited the amount in his wife's accounts frequently. He used the money for lavish expenses. He also purchased land for Rs 4 lakhs at Sattenpalli and got registered in his father's name. He also purchased gold ornaments weighing about 10-12 tulas and mortgaged them. He used the amount for betting.
