Potholed roads, inadequate drinking water facilities: Ganesh Utsav committees flag civic concerns in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Ahead of Ganesh Navaratri, several Utsav committees have flagged urgent civic concerns in the city.
Their demands include repairing potholes along procession routes, ensuring uninterrupted street lighting, and arranging adequate drinking water on immersion day.
The other demands of Utsav committees also include providing immersion vehicles for pandal organizers and trimming tree branches obstructing the immersion path.
Coordination meeting at TGICCC
To address these issues, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand has chaired an inter-departmental coordination meeting at the TGICCC building.
Speaking on the occasion, Anand urged pandal organisers to strictly follow court directives on idol immersion and share idol details with police for security and surveillance planning.
He advised appointing volunteers to assist police, avoiding inconvenience to devotees, and limiting DJ systems to prevent health issues among the elderly and children. TGSRTC was asked to deploy additional drivers and mechanics for immersion operations.
Appeal for Harmony
Pointing out that Vinayaka Chavithi Navaratri and Milad-un-Nabi fall together this year, the Police Commissioner appealed for cooperation to ensure peaceful and incident-free celebrations. He confirmed that robust bandobust arrangements will be in place across Hyderabad.
Civic measures announced
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan assured that special baby ponds and cranes will be set up for the smooth idol immersion.
He announced the deployment of 160 special action teams and the provision of ambulances, fire tenders, mobile toilets, additional transformers, barricades, and drinking water supply.
Hyderabad Metro Rail officials confirmed extended services till midnight, while Hyderabad Collector Harichandan said that medical teams will be stationed at major pandals.
Joint CP Traffic Joel Davis assured night-time traffic management teams to prevent congestion.
Tech-backed vigil
TGICCC Director VB Kamalasan Reddy said CCTV feeds from all three commissionerates have been integrated for real-time monitoring and quick inter-departmental coordination.
Senior officials from GHMC, HMWSSB, Electricity Department, TGSRTC, Fire Services, Tourism, Transport, Medical & Health, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Police attended, along with leaders from Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi and Khairatabad Bada Ganesh Utsav Samithi.
