Power cuts, flooding: Heavy rains lash heat-oppressed Hyderabad

Hyderabad: On Sunday evening and early Monday morning, strong rains pounded several areas of Hyderabad, providing much-needed relief from the oppressive heat. It rained in parts of the city close to Kukatpally, Manikonda, Gachibowli, Suchitra, and Kompally, among other locations.

Passengers and pedestrians were inconvenienced by the unexpected downpour. Numerous locations around the city reported flooding and occasional power outages.

According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, the districts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, and Vikarabad may see thunder, lightning, and gusty winds in the next 24 hours.

A wind speed of 30 to 40 kmph is predicted.

The IMD prediction indicates that Hyderabad is expected to see rain for two more days. Adilabad, Komurambhim Asifabad, Mancheryala, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapalli, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Janagam, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy will receive rains on Monday.

The IMD has warned that the districts of Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagar Kurnool, and Vanaparthi may get mild to moderate rainfall.

Rains are predicted for Jogulamba Gadwal, Nagar Kurnool, Narayanapet, Vanaparthi, Mahabubnagar, Medchal Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Jayashankar Bhupalappalli, Mulugu, Manchiryala, Komarambhim Asifabad, and Adilabad districts on Tuesday.

Rangareddy reported the state’s highest rainfall, 88.3 mm, on Monday, which was a severe downpour. Jagtial came in second with 55 mm and Karimnagar came in third with 54.3 mm, both were considered moderate downpours.

Rajendranagar had the most precipitation in the city, with 52.3 mm, followed by Amberpet with 46.3 mm and Serilingampally with 44.5 mm.

Power cuts in parts of Hyderabad

Many places in the city also experienced power cuts from early morning in areas such as Bowenpally, Nacharam, Saidabad, Krishna Nagar, Tank Bund, Suncity, Bandlaguda Jagir, Tolichowki, Kompally, Mallapur, Moosarambagh, Beeramguda, Mothi Nagar, Old City, Asif Nagar, Mehdipatnam, Erragadda, Katedan, Koti, Abids, and other places.

On the other hand, temperatures stayed on the warm side as of Monday afternoon, when Chandanagar recorded the city’s maximum temperature of 42.4°.

Karimnagar recorded the maximum temperature in the entire state (45.1°), followed by Peddapalli and Nirmal (44.9°), Adilabad (44.8°), and Nirmal.
