How parks were occupied illegally in HMDA layout
Hyderabad: Widespread concerns over encroachment on government lands dominated the HYDRAA Prajavani grievance redressal programme, with 54 complaints filedāmany by citizens acting in the public interest.
The majority of the grievances came from MedchalāMalkajgiri and Ranga Reddy districts, highlighting encroachments on public lands, parks, roads, and drains.
A key complaint focused on survey number 136 in the Gundlapochampally Municipality, where unauthorized walls and pillars were reportedly erected on government land.
Residents also flagged the illegal occupation of parks in survey numbers 692, 693, 701, and 717, as well as a blocked 20-foot road between survey numbers 713 and 727, all within an HMDA layout.
In Kothapet village under Uppal mandal, residents from six colonies reported that 3.12 acres of land meant for public use had been encroached upon. A separate complaint from Fathullaguda alleged the misuse of private land records to encroach on adjoining government plots.
Encroachment of a 7-acre parcel in Jalubai Kunta under Nagaram municipality was also reported. One of the most serious concerns came from Puppalaguda, where locals warned that the 55-km-long Bulkapur drain, a vital floodwater channel leading to Hussainsagar, is being steadily lost to illegal construction, posing a rising flood threat to nearby colonies.
HYDRAA Fire Department Additional Director Varla Papayya reviewed the complaints, analyzed satellite images and maps, and recommended follow-up actions based on initial assessments.
