Hyderabad: 'Premithon', a marathon aimed at aiding premature babies, is being organised on 13 November by the Extra Mile Foundation at the Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge in Hyderabad.
Speaking about the word "Premithon," Dr. Natasha Bagga, the founder of Extra Mile, said, "We chose that word to emphasise that it is about premature babies."
Extra Mile Foundation is an NGO and charitable trust that works to save premature and sick newborns who have survival chances with proper intensive care treatment (NICU) but whose parents cannot afford it.
Apart from providing equitable medical care, the NGO aims to create awareness of the emotional and social challenges of raising a preterm baby by engaging parents in counseling.
Dr. Natasha said they are also working on training healthcare workers posted in peripheries, small newborn care units (SNCU), and remote areas, enabling advanced skill-based learning.
"We are collaborating with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state governments to reach the grassroots and build support systems," she added.
The funds collected during the marathon will be used to aid the cause.
