Hyderabad: Police have arrested Menni Ranjith, a software engineer and close aide of notorious criminal Batthula Prabhakar, the prime accused in the firing on a constable at Prism Club, Gachibowli on February 1.

On February 1, Gachibowli Police arrested Prabhakar and recovered two country-made weapons from him. On credible information, the police arrested Menni Ranjith, from his residence in TNGOs Colony, Gachibowli, Serilingampally Mandal, Ranga Reddy district. He is a native of Gopavaram Village, Gopalapuram Mandal, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh.

He has been named the second accused in the case. During interrogation, Ranjith confessed to his involvement in the crime. It was also revealed that Ranjith came to Hyderabad in 2023 for a job and initially stayed at JNTU, KPHB.

During this time, he developed a friendship with Batthula Prabhakar. Later, Prabhakar rented a flat in Vattinagulapally under Ranjith’s name. On Prabhakar’s advice, he shifted to the new flat. In 2024, Prabhakar and Ranjith traveled to Bihar, where they met Ranjith's acquaintances and illegally purchased firearms and ammunition, police said.

Based on Ranjith’s confession, the police seized a Skoda Rapid Car, a KTM Bike, a Samsung Galaxy Phone, and some other documents from the possession of the accused. The arrested accused Menni Ranjith was produced before the Court.
