Public money being misused’: Telangana HC slams HCA for financial mismanagement

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court today slammed Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) for serious financial mismanagement.

Passing serious strictures, the Court said the committee members do not put any personal money into the association. The court also noted that public money is being misused.

Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti highlighted the gravity of the situation while hearing a quash petition filed by Bellampalli MLA G Vinod.

Grave financial mismanagement highlighted

The bench termed the case a serious instance of financial misappropriation. It also questioned HCA’s authorization of “commercial purposes” at cricket events.

“Even in the villages of our country, people stop agricultural work to watch cricket matches,” the judge remarked, underlining the social impact of such permissions.

Allegations against Vinod

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) alleged that Vinod, during his tenure as HCA president, awarded contracts without bank guarantees, sanctioned inflated contracts, and made unconstitutional appointments. HCA reportedly received Rs 4.5 crore as a donation to favor Visakha Industries in contracts.

ACB counsel said around 90 witnesses have been examined so far, and 30 accused are involved. Several accused have sought quash or discharge petitions, or obtained stay orders, apparently to delay proceedings.

Court directs ACB to submit case details

The High Court directed the ACB to furnish the complete case details and the status of all charge sheets. The next hearing has been scheduled for November 25.
