Hyderabad : A large number of citizens who attended the HYDRAA Prajavani programme on Monday expressed strong anger over the growing encroachments on government lands, parks, roads, and other public spaces across various districts. They urged the authorities to act swiftly against those occupying public property through financial and physical influence, emphasizing that protecting such lands would benefit thousands of residents.
Many citizens appreciated the efforts being made by HYDRAA to curb these violations and said they came to Prajavani with confidence that their grievances would be addressed. HYDRAA Additional Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar examined the petitions and directed the concerned departments to take necessary action. A total of 61 complaints were received from different parts of the city and neighboring districts.
Major Complaints Received
Encroachments in Mallapur, Balapur Mandal:
Residents and representatives from Mallapur village in Rangareddy district reported that two parks and two roads meant for public use were being illegally occupied.
Encroachment of Canal-Side Government Lands in Sainagar Colony:
The Sri Sainagar Colony Welfare Association from Ramachandrapuram in Sangareddy district complained that government lands adjacent to the canal were being encroached upon.
Park Land in Sanjeevareddy Nagar:
Residents of Ameerpet mandal reported that government lands in Survey Nos. 102/1 and 102/3, allocated for a public park, were being encroached upon.
Other Notable Issues
Expansion of Ameenpur Pedda Tank in Sangareddy District:
Plot owners complained that the Ameenpur Pedda Tank, originally spread over 93 acres, had expanded to more than 400 acres due to the closure of its four outflow gates. This has led to submergence of nearby areas and encroachment of downstream tanks including Kummarikunta, Bandamkommu, Shambunikunta, and Isukabavi. Residents sought immediate intervention, stating that the issue has persisted for nearly four decades.
Encroachment on School Land in Annojiguda, Malkajgiri District:
Residents of Sri Venkata Sai Colony complained that 1,967 square yards of government land in Survey Nos. 44 and 45 of Pocharam Municipality, originally allotted for a school building, were being encroached upon. They urged officials to fence and protect the site.
Request to Develop Park in Manikonda:
In Survey No. 75 of Manikonda Municipality, out of 1.23 acres of government land, 1.10 acres remain vacant. Representatives of Sriramnagar Colony appealed for this land to be preserved and developed into a park, noting that their 100-acre colony with over a thousand plots lacks any open space for recreation.
Protection of Medikunta Lake in Serilingampally Mandal:
Residents of Guttalabegumpeta complained about ongoing encroachments on the 24.19-acre Medikunta Lake. They stated that while an 80-foot road exists along one side, illegal construction is progressing inside the lake area. The lake, which once connected Tammidikunta and Sunnam lakes, is crucial for groundwater recharge. Citizens demanded the removal of encroachments and full restoration of the water body.
Officials assured that all complaints received through Hyderabad Prajavani would be reviewed promptly and forwarded to the respective departments for resolution.
