Hyderabad: A high drama was witnessed at Hyderabad's busy Punjagutta circle on Monday morning when a driver working at Tellapur Commissioner's office climbed atop traffic post and tried to attempt suicide.

A video of the man trying to hang himself has now gone viral. Identified as Raju, a resident of Zaheerabad district of Telangana has been under treatment at Medicare Hospital in Chanda Nagar.

The family said when they were trying to shift Raju from Medicure hospital to NIMS in Punjagutta, he gave them a slip and climbed atop a traffic post.

"This is not the first time when he escaped and attempted to create tension. Raju is being treated for high blood pressure," his family said.

The incident brought the traffic to a standstill at Punjagutta during rush hours. Scones of onlookers assembled at the spot and tried to convince him not to take the extreme step.

People were seen screaming and trying to help him out. Even a soldier in camouflage uniform tried to climb the post to save the man.

The man disrobed himself and attempted to hang himself using a wire. However, he was brought down safely when onlookers used an RTC bus to rescue him. While seeing the bus, he jumped from the post. However, the people immediately swung into action and prevented him from ending his life.

Police immediately took the man into custody for questioning. He is currently being questioned by the Punjagutta Traffic and law and order police.
