Hyderabad: Special checkpoints for drunken drivers were organised on the new year intervening night to prevent road accidents in Rachakonda and and accident-prone areas. The Traffic Police with other stakeholders booked 387 cases for driving under the influence and 247 persons were booked for overspeeding.
Police said 26 persons were caught for driving under the influence and were produced before a special judge at Bhongir and 16 persons among them received imprisonment for 1 to 7 days.
In addition, 6,049 cases were booked under various heads of the MV Act inside the Rachakonda limits. CP Rachakonda Mahesh Bhagwat IPS personally visited check posts on Warangal, Vijaywada National Highways and other roads. Wine shops were closed at 12 and bars and restaurants at 1 am as per government orders.
CP Rachakonda appreciated all officers and staff of Rachakonda Police commissionerate for their efforts to prevent fatal road accidents especially due to drunken driving.
