Acting on specific information, sleuths of Special Operations Team (SOT) Bhongir along with DI Malkajgiri and Abdullapurmet police launched an operation and apprehended two smugglers.
They have been identified as Shingarapu Saidulu and Chiluka Saidi Reddy, both hailing from the Nalgonda district.
Cops seized 200 kilos of Ganja, a Maruti Eeco, and three mobile phones. The value of Ganja is said to be Rs 21 lakh in the market.
Police also registered a case against four absconders including the main accused Mende Venkanna. The other three have been identified as Venkanna from Nalgonda, and Gopala Nagendram (receiver), and Dalapathi Somra (supplier). Police said all four are on the run.
Police said Mende Venkanna and Telu Venkanna are cousins who bought the Maruti van for business purposes. In order to earn easy money, they subsequently started smuggling Ganja from the Bhadrachalam agency area to Hyderabad. Mende Venkanna was previously involved in illicit sand smuggling.
The cousin duo got acquainted with Gopala Nagendram and Dalapathi Somra. To expand the illegal business, they made Shingarapu Saidulu and Chiluka Saidi Reddy their partners. Before the bust, they had transported the Ganja four times. The drugs were delivered to Mende Venkanna near Patancheru locality on the outskirts of Hyderabad City.
On September 20, the cousin brothers went to the Bhadrachalam agency area in their Swift D-Zire car and purchased 200 KGs of Ganja. On September 21, Shingarapu Saidulu and Chiluka Saidi Reddy went to the Bhadrachalam agency in a Maruti van and loaded the Ganja underneath its front and rear seats.
On the same night, they left the Bhadrachalam agency area in the van. His cousin brother was escorting them in a Swift D-Zire.
When they reached the outskirts of Abdullapurmet village, SOT Bhongir zone with the help of DI Malkajgiri and Abdullapurmet police asked them to stop. However, they tried to escape from the spot. However, after a hot chase, they were arrested.
