Hyderabad: Even as crimes against women rose by four per cent in the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate in 2025, the police posted strong gains in case disposal, convictions and crime control, achieving a 78 per cent disposal rate and a sharp reduction in property offences.
Addressing the annual press conference on Monday, Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu said the commissionerate registered 26,852 cases during the year, of which 21,056 were disposed of, reflecting improved investigation and follow-up.
Crimes against women show an upward trend
Giving a breakdown of crimes against women and children, the Commissioner said cases of molestation, kidnapping, dowry deaths and offences under the POCSO Act increased in 2025 compared to the previous year.
Here’s the data on the cases:
- POCSO cases: 516 in 2025 (392 in 2024)
- Molestation cases: 809 (561)
- Kidnapping cases: 479 (233)
- Dowry murders: Six cases (three in 2024)
Overall, crimes against women rose by four per cent during the year, underlining the need for sustained preventive and enforcement measures.
Property crimes down by 15%
Despite the rise in certain offences, property crimes declined by 15 per cent, which police attributed to visible policing, quick-response teams, surveillance through suspect sheets and the arrest of habitual and potential offenders.
Zero-NBW Commissionerate
Rachakonda police executed 4,121 Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) during the year, enabling the commissionerate to achieve the status of a zero-NBW zone, a key benchmark in warrant execution.
Strong convictions, state topper
The commissionerate recorded a strong conviction rate, securing 31 life imprisonment convictions against 55 accused, ranking first in Telangana and 20-year imprisonment sentences in 12 cases.
In a sensational murder case registered at the Addagudur police station, 17 accused were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment
Lok Adalats reduce pendency
To ease the court backlog, police disposed of 13,062 FIR cases and 44,742 e-petty cases through Lok Adalats, significantly reducing pendency.
The Commissioner said the focus in the coming year would be on strengthening crime prevention, improving cybercrime detection, and intensifying efforts to curb offences against women through enforcement, awareness and swift justice.
