Railway police seize Rs 37.50 lakhs at Secunderabad station; one held

By Newsmeter Network Published on 1 April 2024 9:39 AM GMTHyderabad: Officials of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) seized unaccounted cash worth Rs 37.50 lakhs from a person at the Secunderabad railway station on Sunday. The incident occurred during checks by the RPF staff given the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in Telangana.
The person has been identified as P Laxman Ram (45), a resident of Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. According to police data, Laxman Ram was stopped by the officials on platform number 1, near gate number 3 at the middle foot over bridge at the Secunderabad railway station.
On thorough checking, his Laxman yielded cash of Rs 37,50,000. When asked, Laxman was unable to show any valid documents regarding the origin and purpose of the cash and refused to reveal any details regarding the receiver of the cash. The cash was seized under the cover of Panchanama and the SHO informed the seizure to his superiors and the returning officer of Sanath Nagar.
Soon, the seized cash is handed over to the income tax department, Ayakar Bhavan, Hyderabad, under proper acknowledgement to take further action. The seized cash was in 15 bundles of 500 notes, each bundle having Rs 2,50,000 and the total cash was Rs 37,50,000.
The public is advised to report any suspicious activity in public places to the police for immediate action.
