Telangana to witness continued rains till May 28; mercury set to dip below normal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has forecast a prolonged spell of rainfall across Telangana, including key districts such as Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy. The wet weather, accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph, is expected to persist until May 28.

According to the IMD, thunderstorms are likely to affect all districts of the state on Thursday, driven by a prevailing upper air circulation and trough system. The department has urged residents to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to waterlogging and strong winds.

Daytime temperatures to drop

The ongoing rains are also set to bring down maximum temperatures across Telangana. IMD officials indicated that daytime temperatures may drop by 3°C to 5°C below the seasonal average, providing extended relief from the intense summer heat experienced earlier this month.

The weather department continues to monitor the situation and advises the public to follow updates and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and high winds.

Hailstorm alert

Districts like Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad are likely to witness hailstorms, while Hyderabad and Rangareddy may experience light to moderate rainfall. There is also a warning for possible lightning strikes in isolated locations.

Residents are advised to remain cautious and monitor local weather updates as the state continues to witness unstable weather conditions.

CM Revanth Reddy instructs officials on high alert

Following heavy rains in the districts and also in Hyderabad , Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy instructed the officials concerned to be on high alert and take necessary precautions as per the IMD forecast that the Telangana state will receive rain for another three days.

The Chief Minister asked the District Collectors to take appropriate safety measures to prevent paddy stockpiled at the procurement centers and market yards from getting wet during rains.

The officials are instructed to shift paddy soon after weighing to rice mills without any delay and take safety measures in the low lying areas without causing inconvenience to the inhabitants.

In view of rains in Hyderabad city, CM Revanth Reddy ordered the civic authorities to take necessary steps to prevent water logging on the roads in the rain hit areas and ensure no traffic congestion and power outages.

The GHMCO Police, HYDRAA, Traffic Police and Electricity departments have been asked to work in coordination. The CM also instructed Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao to review the situation from time to time.
