Ranga Reddy: Chaitanya staffer accused of stealing Rs 2 crores in student admissions; 3 held
They falsely recorded direct student admissions as being facilitated through agents by creating fake records with agent names
By Newsmeter Network Published on 8 Sep 2024 12:44 PM GMTHyderabad: Three persons were arrested for allegedly siphoning Rs 1 to 2 crores by manipulating the admission records of Chaitanya (Deemed to be University) in Himayathnagar village, Ranga Reddy District, Cyberabad.
The crime came to light after Dr Chintalapani Venkata Purshottam Reddy, founder of Chaitanya filed a complaint.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Police of Cyberabad arrested the three persons on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust and forgery. The accused have been identified as Sanikommu Suma, Bhuthapati Dinker and Burra Srikanth. The three are residents of Warangal district.
Modus operandi
According to the case file, Sanikommu Suma had worked as dean/in-charge for admissions in Chaitanya (Deemed to be University) along with Bhuthapati Dinker and Burra Srikanth in the admission department.
She was in charge of giving admission to college students from various States through consultant agencies/agents and also directly. Agency and agents who facilitate the admissions get remuneration.
Taking the process as an advantage and opportunity, the accused persons criminally conspired and hatched a plan. They falsely recorded direct student admissions as being facilitated through agents by creating fake records with agent names. After the admissions, they issued forged/fabricated payment vouchers in the agentās names and diverted the funds for their personal gain. The accused persons siphoned off approximately Rs 1 to 2 crores by manipulating the admission process and its records.
A case was registered at EOW police station, Cyberabad under sections 403, 408, 420, 467, 468, 471, 477(A) R/w 120(B) of IPC.
Public advisory
The Cyberabad EOW police hereby advised to the management of educational institutions to keep a watch on the employees, do not believe them blindly and monitor them closely. The department is committed to prosecuting the fraudsters and cheaters, the police said.
