Hyderabad: In a major re-shuffle Hyderabad Police Commissioner has transferred 69 Police officials of Inspector rank serving in various law and order, traffic and different wings of the commissionerate. This development comes after the arrest of Marredpally Inspector of police Nageshwara Rao who is currently facing judicial remand in an alleged rape at gun-point case.

Hyderabad city police Commissioner CV Anand, on July 13th transferred 69 Inspectors after prolonged meetings with the officials. Several rounds of discussions were held on Wednesday, in which it was decided to transfer all Station House Officers (SHOs) of Law and Order police, Traffic and a majority of the officers working in others wings like Central Crime State(CCS) and control rooms and as detective Inspectors in police stations, especially those who have completed 3 years of tenure in their present posts.

As part of the policy and procedure laid down, it was also decided to conduct a 360° SB enquiry into the personal life, reputation, integrity of all those inspectors picked to be SHOs of Law and Order police stations and for task force especially, and even for traffic wing.

Why was Marredpally CI Nageshwara Rao booked

Marredpally SHO K. Nageshwara Rao was first suspended on 9 July and later taken into custody, after a rape case was filed against him at the Vanasthalipuram police station.

Nageshwara Rao has been booked under various sections of the IPC and the Arms Act 1959.On 8 July, a woman filed a complaint at the Vanasthalipuram police station against Rao stating that he raped her and threatened her and her husband with a revolver. The woman's husband was reportedly arrested by Rao in 2018.On 6 July, Rao reportedly made a WhatsApp call to the woman seeking sexual favours while her husband was away.

The next morning, Rao trespassed into the woman's house in Vanasthalipuram, beat her, and raped her. In the meantime, the woman's husband arrived, kicked open the door, and beat Rao with a stick. Rao threatened the couple with a revolver and beat the husband. He asked them to leave Hyderabad and threatened to file a case against them if they did not. Later, Rao took them to Ibrahimpatnam. While they were in the car, they met with an accident at Ibrahimpatnam lake on the morning of 8 July. The woman and her husband escaped and she filed a case.

He was also booked for violating the Arms Act, the same was registered against him. SHO. Karkhana inspector C. Nethaji has been posted as the new SHO of Marredpally. The cop had surrendered himself before the investigating officer and has been sent to 15 days of judicial remand.
