Rayasamudram Lake in Sangareddy to be developed as eco-recreation hub: HYDRAA chief Ranganath
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) will prepare and submit proposals to the State government to comprehensively develop Rayasamudram Lake in Ramachandrapuram, Sangareddy district, said HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath on Tuesday.
Conducting a field inspection following complaints from local residents and officials about hurdles to lake development, the Commissioner said the 120-acre water body has strong potential to be transformed into a clean, vibrant recreational destination while being conserved as an ecological asset.
HYDRAA inspects lake
During the visit, the Commissioner examined the lake’s inlets and outlets and discussed on-ground issues with officials.
He said HYDRAA would remove procedural and technical obstacles if development is taken up as per existing proposals by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and extend full cooperation to expedite works.
Vision for lake development includes recreation and fitness zones
Beyond serving as a water source, Rayasamudram Lake can be developed as a public recreation space, the Commissioner said.
Proposed amenities include walking tracks, parks, a children’s play area and outdoor fitness equipment for all age groups. Stressing conservation, he noted the lake is a habitat for migratory birds and must be protected holistically.
Coordination with BHEL and STP proposal
To prevent sewage inflow into the lake, HYDRAA will engage with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to reroute pipelines without disrupting works on BHEL land. An STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) will also be required, he said.
Long-standing technical disputes over lake land involving BHEL and other government agencies will be addressed through consultations with senior officials.
No cause for public anxiety
Dispelling fears among residents, the Commissioner clarified that HYDRAA does not target existing residential houses.
“Our focus is only on removing obstructions that block natural water flow and addressing encroachments that affect the lake. If removals become unavoidable, compensation will be ensured through the government,” he said.
Multi-agency participation
Officials from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, HMDA, the Irrigation Department and BHEL, along with local leaders, accompanied the Commissioner.
The team surveyed the lake perimeter and reviewed points where sewage enters through inlets.
