This size of electricity consumption was last recorded in May 2023, according to officials of TSSDPCL.
Comparing with 2023 data
Due to increased temperatures and more people opting to work from home, domestic electricity consumption has increased.
In March 2023, electricity consumption was 67.97 million units and the average consumption in March 2023 was 57.84 million units. However, in March 2024, the average consumption reached 70.96 units, an increase of 22.7 per cent with 79.48 million units being consumed.
āIncreased consumption means surplus supplyā
Senior officials have stated that the consumption has increased as sufficient electricity is available in the state.
The dry season requires a continuous supply of electricity which the Telangana government is providing, they asserted. In a meeting with the department, the chairman and managing director of TSSPDCL Musharraf Faruqui directed officials to ensure that the upcoming demand for the next two months must be met.
Increased consumption till May
Due to the heat, electricity department officials estimate that the consumption is likely to reach 90 million units in 2024. Additional electricity lines, transformers and grid management are needed to meet the demand.
Additional staff deployed
In Greater Hyderabad, additional staff of 800 people have been deployed in 212 sections. There are also visits in those areas with complaints of continuous power fluctuations and power tripping, said officials. For proper management of peak hours, the electricity department officials have been asked to be in the office till 9 pm.
