Hyderabad: Telangana is set to receive relief from the ongoing heatwave as scattered thundershowers are expected between March 20 and 24. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a dip in temperatures and an increase in cloud cover, which could trigger thunderstorms across multiple districts.

Scattered showers likely to break the heatwave

Weather experts indicate that the current heatwave will subside with the arrival of pre-monsoon activity.

ā€œCloud formation will increase from March 20, leading to possible thunderstorms in parts of Telangana,ā€ said KS Sridhar, IMD meteorologist, speaking to NewsMeter. ā€œWe expect isolated to scattered rainfall, which will bring temporary relief from the high temperatures.ā€

Independent weather analyst Balaji popularly known as Telangana Weatherman on X also confirmed the shift, stating, ā€œThe heatwave will weaken after March 20, and some areas may experience intense thunderstorms between March 21 and 24.ā€

Heatwave to persist until March 20

Before the expected relief, Telangana will continue to experience heatwave conditions in several districts, including Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Jagtial, where temperatures have been touching 40-41 degrees Celsius.

Hyderabad recorded a maximum temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday, and similar conditions are likely to continue.

ā€¢ March 17-19: Maximum temperatures of 38-39 degrees Celsius with haze and partly cloudy skies.

ā€¢ March 20: A slight dip to 37 degrees Celsius, with increased cloud formation.

ā€¢ March 21-23: Further cooling to 35-36 degrees Celsius, with thunderstorms in isolated pockets.

ā€œWhile the showers will lower daytime temperatures, humidity levels may rise, leading to discomfort in the evenings,ā€ added Sridhar.

Residents are advised to stay alert

With thunderstorms and gusty winds expected, IMD has advised people to stay indoors during heavy rain and avoid open spaces. Health experts have also advised caution, as temperatures will remain high before the expected showers.

Although relief is expected in the coming days, meteorologists warn that heatwave conditions may return after March 25.
