Remarks against Prophet: Tension grips Hashmathpet after BJP's pro-Nupur Sharma rally

Hyderabad: Tension gripped Hashmathpet after BJP's youth wing held a rally in support of former party spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

A large police posse was deployed to prevent any untoward incident.

The trouble started when workers of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) took out a rally in support of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma in Hashmathpet – a minority-dominated area – located at the border of Bowenpally and Alwal police station limits in Secunderabad.

Holding posters of 'We Support Nupur Sharma', they raised slogans in support of Nupur Sharma. Another group of people gathered on the road and raised slogans against Nupur Sharma. The sloganeering from both sides continued for a few minutes.

Soon, as the crowd swelled, the Bowenpally and Alwal police rushed to the spot and dispersed the gathering. Police reinforcements were rushed to the spot and senior police officials later reviewed the situation.

Hyderabad and Cyberabad police officials immediately forced the shopkeepers to close down their establishments as a precautionary measure and increased the patrolling in the area. Police pickets have also been deployed at sensitive locations in and around Alwal as a precautionary measure.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and immediately dispersed both the groups. The organizer of the rally has been detained.
