Rest in peace & harmony: Crematorium for multiple religions at Uppal to be open on 6 Dec
A GHMC dump yard filled with construction and demolition waste has been cleared and utilised to build the crematorium.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 5 Dec 2022 9:59 AM GMTHyderabad: A crematorium for multiple religions-Hindu, Muslims, and Christians will be inaugurated on 6 December by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister K T Rama Rao at Fathullaguda in Uppal. The crematorium has been developed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
A GHMC dump yard filled with construction and demolition waste has been cleared and utilised to build the crematorium. Expected to be sent across the message of communal harmony, the 6.5 acres of crematorium has been divided in a ratio of 2.5:2:2 for Hindus, Muslims, and Christians respectively.
The crematorium has a dedicated office room, cold storage, prayer hall, a room for the watchman, toilet block, last journey vehicles and parking space. A Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) with a capacity of 50 KLD is installed to treat and reuse the sewage for maintaining the landscapes. The greenery in the area is developed by the Urban Forestry Wing of HMDA. The total cost of the entire project amounts to Rs.16.25 crores.
The crematorium for the people belonging to the Hindu community is called Mukti Ghat. It is an ecoāfriendly crematorium with two fully electrical furnaces to reduce environmental pollution. A solar power plant of 140 KW capacity is installed in the crematorium to generate solar power to meet 90% of the power requirement for electric cremation furnaces and for other utilities. A separate building has also been built for performing rituals on the 10th day.
For the Muslims and Christians, a conventional burial ground in three layers has been dug and each crematorium can accommodate about 550 bodies.
