Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao conducted a high-level review meeting with senior officials of the Municipal Administration Department, GHMC, and Water Board on Tuesday.

The purpose of the meeting was to ensure that towns across the state are well-prepared to tackle the challenges posed by the upcoming monsoon season.

Minister KTR during the review meeting said, “As we approach the rainy season, it is crucial for our municipalities to be fully prepared and ready to face any situation that may arise. Our top priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens, and we must work together to prevent any loss of life under any circumstances.”

The officials informed Minister KT Rama Rao that they have already been diligently planning for the rainy season, including conducting safety audits of canals in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other municipalities across the state.

During the meeting, the MAUD minister conducted a special review of the progress made on projects such as the Stormwater Drainage Network Project (SNDP) in Hyderabad. Officials from the SNDP department informed him that a majority of the planned works had been completed, reducing the risk of flooding in many areas compared to the previous year.

Minister KT Rama Rao instructed the officials to identify low-lying areas and make necessary arrangements, including the provision of dewatering pumps, to mitigate potential waterlogging issues.

Furthermore, KTR addressed the functioning of the newly established ward offices in Hyderabad and advised, “Our ward office system is a crucial initiative that requires attention and constant improvement. I urge the zonal commissioners and deputy commissioners to proactively address the challenges faced at this initial stage. Daily visits and monitoring will help us ensure the effective functioning of the ward office system.”

During the meeting, KTR took the opportunity to speak with several citizens of the city via phone calls. He inquired about the problems they had reported and the effectiveness of the solutions provided by GHMC.
