Police recovered Rs 77.78 lakh in cash along with vehicles, mobile phones, and flight tickets as the accused attempted to flee to Lucknow.

Inside job turns into planned robbery

Police said the main accused, Md. Khusrouddin, an employee at a Bahadurpura-based firm, masterminded the crime after learning that the cash he handled was part of illegal hawala transactions. He conspired with Md. Omer Shareef and others are to loot the money during transit.

The firm allegedly used a coded system involving a Rs 10 currency note to transfer large sums of cash across the city.

How the robbery was executed

On March 17, Khusrouddin and the complainant, Md. Azeemuddin were sent to Kukatpally to collect Rs 1 crore. After receiving the cash, Khusrouddin alerted his accomplices about their route.

Near Pillar No. 836, the gang intercepted their motorcycle and threw chilli powder into their eyes, causing them to lose control and crash into a bus. The accused then snatched the cash bag and fled the scene.

Key clue: Bike left behind

During the robbery, one of the accused, Saddam, fell on the road after being affected by chilli powder, leaving behind his Honda Activa. This became a crucial lead for investigators.

Police traced the vehicle ownership to Saddam’s family, which helped identify the suspects.

Acting on intelligence that the accused were planning to escape to Lucknow, police rushed to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and arrested Omer Shareef, Saddam, and Hameed while they were about to board a flight.

Khusrouddin was also taken into custody, while five other accused, Chotu, Salman, Ghouse, Zeeshan, and Jammu, remain absconding.
