Hyderabad: The residents of Sanath Nagar, Hyderabad, have been grappling with persistent road issues, raising concerns about safety and accessibility.

Chetan Sinha, a resident, has been actively seeking resolution through social media, particularly by tagging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in his tweets.

Chetan expressed frustration about malfunctioning streetlights and inadequate road repairs after the laying of pipelines in the Sanath Nagar area on Twitter.

HMWSSB conducted road repairs

Chetan tweeted in May 2023, tagging the GHMC, and questioning their lack of response and action. The post received attention from GHMC, requesting the exact location for immediate resolution.

“I promptly shared the location on Google Maps, highlighting the deteriorating condition of the roads. Despite this, the situation seemed to persist,” said Chetan.

GHMC responded, with assistant engineer Sai Sandeep assuring that the stretch was sanctioned for laying a CC road, and work would commence within a week.

Another resident also expressed disappointmentwith the area, emphasising the lack of action from the AE (engineering) team.

Residents also revealed that road repair was carried out by the HMWSSB department for utility connections. The HMWSSB manager was informed to restore the road properly. However, the residents of Sanath Nagar remained dissatisfied.

Despite promises of action, the situation had not improved, putting our safety at risk, they said.

No response for 3 months

However, by June 1, the promised work had not begun, leading to further tweets on June 29 and August 16, seeking updates that went unanswered.

Chetan posted images on August 17 showcasing the worsening condition of the road.

“Despite Sai Sandeep’s earlier assurance and GHMC’s awareness, the safety hazards persisted, causing great inconvenience to residents and commuters,” said Chetan.

“The residents of our colony’s persistence paint a picture of continued neglect and unfulfilled promises. The road, essential for daily commuting and especially for students attending the nearby school, remains a glaring issue,” said Mahima Chaudhary, another concerned resident.

Road issues putting students at risk

“The road condition in Sanath Nagar reflects not just a pothole problem but a larger systemic issue of delayed or inadequate responses from civic authorities. The safety of residents, particularly school-going children, is at stake, demanding immediate attention and effective solutions,” she added.

Efforts are continuously being made by Chetan Sinha and the rest of the residents to draw attention to this matter through social media.

“As we move forward, it remains to be seen if GHMC will take definitive action to address the concerns raised by me and the fellow residents of Sanath Nagar,” concluded Chetan Sinha.
