Hyderabad: Thieves managed to cut down and steal a valuable sandalwood tree from the heavily secured bungalow of Madhukar Naik, the CEO of Secunderabad Cantonment Board.

As per the CCTV footage, the theft might have occurred on August 5, when the tree was found to be missing by A Mahender, in-charge horticulture officer of the Cantonment Board.

Mahender filed an official complaint with the Begumpet police on Friday. According to the police, the assailants reportedly cut through the iron fencing surrounding the bungalow, scaled the wall, and gained entry into the property.

The stolen sandalwood tree, a valuable and rare species known for its fragrant heartwood, was reportedly cut down and removed from the premises.

Begumpet police have registered a case under sections 447 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertain to trespassing and theft, respectively.

Inspector Jattu Bhaskar of the Begumpet police told NewsMeter that efforts are underway to identify the perpetrators using CCTV footage obtained from the vicinity.
