Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police have detained Syed Abdahu Quadri alias Kashaf (27), a resident of Old Malakpet in the city, under the Preventive Detection Act 1986 for creating hatred between people of two communities. He is lodged in Cherlapally central prison.

Qadri was part of the dharna against BJP Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh that took place in front of the Hyderabad CP's office in Basheerbagh on the intervening night of 22 and 23 August.

According to the Hyderabad city police commissioner, Quadri has been repeatedly posting provocative and inflammatory messages and videos on social media through his Twitter account to promote enmity between Hindus and Muslims, cause a breach of communal peace, and disturb public tranquillity.

Hundreds of young men from the Muslim community from all over the city descended at the CP's office to protest against the offensive video posted by Raja Singh on Shree Ram Channel in which he made controversial remarks about the Prophet Mohammed.

According to the police, Qadri instigated the protestors to raise provocative and inflammatory slogans like 'Naare Takbeer Allah Hu Akbar – Gustak-e-Rasool ki ek hi saza, sar tan se juda' (beheading is the only punishment for a person who disrespects the Prophet) and created hatred and ill-will between the Muslim and Hindu communities in the city, thereby adversely affecting the maintenance of public order.

"The provocative and inciting slogans raised by the detenu (Qadri) during the protest programme has caught the attention of the gullible youth of the Muslim community which led to widespread protest programmes with violent incidents in different parts of Hyderabad city. Details of violent incidents were reported in the limits of Moghalpura, Shahinayathgunj, Bhavaninagar, and Hussainialam police stations in which protestors damaged police vehicle, pelted stones at a police station, attacked a hotel vendor and a private cab driver," said the police.

The Hyderabad police also noted that Qadri has been involved in four offences in the Hyderabad police commissionerate area, of which three are related to creating hatred between Muslims and Hindus. Earlier, cases had been registered against him under various sections of the IPC at various police stations in the city.

Meanwhile, PRO of AIMIM said that person has nothing to do with the party and its activities.
