Six historic monuments are being restored by various entities in the state.

Telangana governments have decided to restore several heritage projects this year.

Here are some of the heritage sites that may witness restoration in 2023.

Sardar Mahal

In early December 2022, Special Chief Secretary of Urban Development Arvind Kumar announced that Hyderabad's Sardar Mahal would be revived and renovated.

"It will have an art gallery, studio & cafe, and heritage accommodation on the lines of Neemrana," he tweeted.

Neemrana is a hill fort in Rajasthan.

The development work at Sardar Mahal is being taken up by Kalakriti Art Gallery in a tripartite agreement with the government & Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA).

Sardar Mahal was built in European style by Nizam VI Mir Mahboob Ali Khan in 1900 for one of his consorts Sardar Begum. It is 3 minutes away from Charminar.

Murghi Chowk

Historic Murghi Chowk, which is also known as Mahboob Chowk Market, will also be renovated this year.

It is on the verge of collapse.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and QQSUDA have taken up its reconstruction and redevelopment for Rs 36 crores.

The work commenced on December 22 and will take 18 months to finish.

Mir Alam Mandi

Mir Alam Mandi, Hyderabad's oldest market,t is located in the Old City. It is set to be renovated for Rs 16.14 crores.

The Nizam-era market will be rebuilt and restored to its original grandeur. The underground drain, paving system, and LED lighting are all lined up.

The work is likely to commence in January 2023

Shaikpet Sarai

Spread over 3 acres of land, Shaikpet Sarai (a resthouse) is set to be restored for adaptive reuse. Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), National Institute of Urban Management (NIUM), Hyderabad, and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) have joined hands to restore 17th-century Sarai.

Built by Abdullah Qutb Shah in the 17th century, the Sarai has 29 rooms, a camel and horse stable, a tomb, and a mosque

Badshahi Ashoorkhana

Badshahi Ashurkhana in Hyderabad was constructed in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. The site is used by Shia mourners during Moharram.

Along with Badhashi Ashurkhana Naqar, Niyar & Abdar Khana were inspected.

QQSUDA and AKTC will take up adaptive intervention, prevent further decay, restore lime plaster & consolidate structures

Khursheed Jah Devdi

Khursheed Jah Devdi is a European-styled architectural palace located a kilometer away from Charminar.

It was built by the Ancestors of Paigah noble Khursheed Jah Bahadur. Its interiors were once adorned with expensive carpets and exclusive chandeliers. The gardens blossomed with flowers and fountains making the ambiance livelier.

It will be completely restored to its original grandeur & a garden with fountains will be developed in the front lawns by HMDA and QQSUDA at the cost of ₹10 crore and will take 2 years.

Arvind Kumar stated that the litigation is sorted out

"It was sad to see the decay & abuse over the years mainly due to reckless shootings. We are determined to bring back the glory & pride," he tweeted.
