Hyderabad: Come, raise a toast!

Hotels and restaurants across Telangana may soon brew and serve their own beer.

The State Excise Department has issued a fresh notification allowing microbreweries beyond Greater Hyderabad. It has also begun inviting applications from entrepreneurs.

Licensing drive begins

Applications for new microbrewery licences opened on Wednesday. Interested parties have until September 25 to apply by submitting a proposal along with a non-refundable fee of Rs 1 lakh.

Expansion beyond Greater Hyderabad

Until now, only 18 microbreweries operated within the Greater Hyderabad limits. The latest order extends eligibility to all municipal corporations in the state, including the Telangana Core Urban Region (TCUR).

The TCUR covers Boduppal, Jawaharnagar, Peerzadiguda, Nizampet, Badangpet, Bandlaguda Jagir, and Meerpet. Municipal corporations in Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Khammam, Mahbubnagar, Adilabad, and Warangal are also covered.

Venues eligible for Microbreweries

The notification permits microbrewery units in Hotels and restaurants, 2B bars, elite bars, C1 clubs, TD1, and TD2 licensed establishments. Each unit must operate from premises measuring at least 1,000 square metres.

Application Procedure

Applicants in TCUR areas must file proposals at the Excise Commissioner’s office, while those in other municipal corporations must approach the respective Deputy Commissioner’s office.

For guidelines, eligibility details, and forms, the Excise Department has advised entrepreneurs to visit igbcl.telangana.gov.in.
