SCB clears two-decade-old illegal structures near JBS ahead of Defence Minister’s visit
Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) on Wednesday demolished several illegal structures in front of the Jubilee Bus Station (JBS), Secunderabad, as part of an encroachment-clearing drive.
The operation was reportedly undertaken in view of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s proposed visit on September 17.
Two decades-old encroachments removed
According to senior SCB officials, businesses, including hotels and eateries, had been operating on Class-C cantonment land for over 20 years.
The encroachers had also occupied portions of a nala and erected temporary iron sheds. Despite repeated notices, the establishments continued operations until Wednesday’s demolition.

Swift operation under tight security
The demolition began in the early hours and was completed within two hours with the use of JCBs. Local police provided security throughout the exercise, ensuring there was no law-and-order disturbance.
Officials confirmed that passenger movement and TGSRTC bus services at JBS were not significantly affected.

Vajpayee statue unveiling planned
Sources said that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to unveil a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park (formerly Picket Public Gardens) near JBS Parade Ground Metro Station during his visit. The century-old park is maintained by the SCB.
Malkajgiri BJP MP Etala Rajender and SCB civilian-nominated member Bhanuka Narmada have extended the invitation to the Defence Minister to unveil the statue.
