Hyderabad: Army and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials are set to take up a joint inspection following reports of inconvenience caused to the people due to the closure of road in the Secunderabad Cantonment Area.

A statement from the government said the Defence officials headed by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Dakshin Bharat, A. Arun, expressed willingness for widening Balkapur Nala in the Mehdipatnam Garrison area.

The decision for the joint inspection was taken on Tuesday after Army officials met Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development K.T.Rama Rao. One of the main issues discussed was the road closure for civilians in the Secunderabad Cantonment area.

It has been decided to construct a skywalk and link roads from Golkonda Golf Course to Neknampur via Dollar Hills.

The Minister said the state government holds Army in high respect. He reminded them of the support given to the family of Colonel B Santosh Babu, the officer who lost his life while fighting the Chinese Army in the Galwan Valley.

KTR said that since the formation of Telangana, the state government has been creating large-scale infrastructure in Hyderabad metropolis. It includes massive expansion and road construction activity in all parts of the city, including army areas.

The GOC responded positively over the issue of expansion of Bulkapur Nala in the Mehdipatnam garrison area. Army officials also promised support for the construction of a skywalk at Mehdipatnam and a link road between the Golkonda golf course and Neknampur via Dollar Hills.

The military officials promised to extend support on all issues for the sake of public convenience, in close coordination with the GHMC and HMDA.
