Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, two sisters spent nine days with their deceased mother's body at Boudhanagar, Warasiguda in Secunderabad.
Starving, they were reeling under depression after their mother’s death.
According to Warasiguda police, C.Lalitha (45) married C.L Raju, an employee at Osmania University, 26 years ago.
In 2020, Raju left home without informing anyone. Since then, Lalitha's daughters, Ravalika (24) and Yashvita (22) have supported the household. With the help of her mother, Lalita managed to sustain the family. Ravalika worked at a garment shop and Yashvita at an event management firm. The family moved to a rented house in Boudhanagar, Warasiguda, less than six months ago.
Tragedy struck when Lalitha, who had been struggling with depression following her mother’s recent passing, died in her sleep on January 22. The family had already been facing financial difficulties and were unable to pay rent for over three months. Reportedly, they had requested their landlord for time to vacate the house by January 21.
Following Lalitha’s sudden death, her daughters were left in shock and despair. With no money for the funeral and suffering from severe starvation, they allegedly attempted to take their own lives by slashing their throats and wrists with sharp objects.
The house owner, who had visited the house twice after noticing Lalitha’s absence, grew suspicious but was not informed of the situation. It was only on Friday morning that the sisters finally stepped out and confided to their neighbors, who then helped them approach the local MLA and later informed the police.
Upon receiving the information, Chilakalaguda ACP Jaipal Reddy and Warasiguda Inspector Saidulu, along with a forensic team, reached the scene and shifted Lalitha’s body to Gandhi Hospital for a postmortem. The police reported that the daughters, in a state of distress, gave incoherent responses during questioning. A case of suspicious death has been registered by Warasiguda police and is currently under investigation.
