Hyderabad: Severe rains and hailstorms are to hit Hyderabad this week starting Thursday, following the India Meteorological Department, Hyderabad’s (IMD-H) projection of a yellow alert for the city. The rain is expected to continue into the weekend, according to the weather prediction.

Many parts of Hyderabad are witnessing heavy rains and high winds. Light hail storms have even hit some regions like the Yadadri Bhuvanagiri and Nalgonda districts of Telangana.

Partly cloudy skies will become generally cloudy over the following 24–48 hours. Mild to moderate rain or thundershowers with hailstorms and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) is highly likely in the city in the evening or at night. The highest and minimum temperatures are expected to be in the 34 and 24°C ranges, respectively.

The Hyderabad city police took to Twitter to publish a video of a metro train in the rain, advising residents to drive safely. Many netizens shared footage of hail stones and torrential rainfall on social media, saying the showers provided much-needed relief from the city’s scorching temperatures.

Notwithstanding the rain forecast, IMD estimates that the maximum temperature in Hyderabad would be in the range of 36 to 40°Celsius.

IMD Hyderabad has issued an orange signal for the whole state of Telangana until 7 April, indicating further rain on Thursday and Friday.

On 5 April, Hyderabad saw torrential rainfall, resulting in power outages throughout the city. Waterlogging was also observed in several spots, including the road under the PVNR Expressway near Attapur, which caused delayed traffic flow for a time.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Shaikpet had the most rain on Wednesday (26.5 mm), followed by Asifnagar (19.8 mm), Golkonda (18 mm), Rajendranagar (15.5 mm), Khairtabad (11.3 mm), and Ameerpet (11.3 mm) (10 mm).
