The laborers, Srinivas and Krishnaiah, were working for the contractor BRR constructions laying a drainage pipeline. A case has been registered against the contractor.

Shadnagar municipal commissioner suspended over death of 2 daily wage labourers

Hyderabad: The government of Telangana on Tuesday suspended Shadnagar municipal commissioner D. Lavanya after two daily wage laborers who were working on an underground drainage project died after loose soil at the worksite caved in on them at Chatanpally on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Monday. The laborers, Srinivas and Krishnaiah, were working for the contractor BRR constructions laying a drainage pipeline. A case has been registered against the contractor.

"The above incident shows a lack of supervision on part of D. Lavanya, municipal commissioner, Shadnagar Municipality in the maintenance of safety measures while executing engineering works. Therefore, after careful examination of the facts, it was found necessary to place the services of the municipal commissioner under suspension with immediate effect until further orders, pending further inquiry in the matter," said Dr N. Satyanarayana, director of Municipal Administration in the suspension order.

He also ordered that during the period of suspension she will be paid subsistence allowance and she shall not leave the headquarters during the suspension period without prior permission. On Monday, three workers got trapped under the soil but one managed to survive.
