Hyderabad: Hanuman Nayak, a 22-year-old, was apprehended by the Film Nagar police for allegedly stealing and consuming chocolates at a D-Mart store while creating reels to encourage others to do the same. Nayak’s arrest comes after a complaint filed by Arjun Singh, the manager of D-Mart, against Nayak and his accomplices.

The complaint, filed with the Film Nagar police, outlines offences, including theft, cheating, criminal conspiracy, defamation, mischief, and nuisance. Under the guise of making a purchase, the accused reportedly stole chocolate products from the D-Mart store at Al-Hamra Colony, Shaikpet, Hyderabad. What sets this incident apart is Nayak’s audacious move to record the act and subsequently share it on the popular social media platform, Instagram.

Avenue Supermarts Limited (ASL), the company behind the D-Mart brand, has asserted that the unauthorised videography violated company policy and posed a risk to the privacy and security of the store, its personnel, and customers. The complaint emphasised that Nayak’s actions were not only detrimental to the company’s image and goodwill but also had the potential to encourage others to engage in similar acts of theft and cheating.

The accused and his accomplices have been accused of unlawfully using the D-Mart brand name for personal gain, tarnishing the company’s reputation. Additionally, Nayak allegedly recorded store personnel and customers without their consent.

ASL expressed concern about the potential damage to the company’s image and goodwill, urging the police to take suitable action against Nayak and his accomplices.

Based on the complaint given by Arjun Singh, the manager of D-Mart, the case has been booked under U/s 420,379 IPC, 67 IT Act, and Hanuman Nayak and his accomplices have been arrested.
