Hyderabad: Police have arrested a joint director and an assistant director of the Animal Husbandry Department in a sheep distribution scheme scam.

The duo were arrested in Ranga Reddy district. They were identified as Dr Anjilappa, Joint Director, DV & AHO, and Dr P Krishnaiah, Assistant.Director, AH Department. So far, six accused have been arrested in this case.

Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested the two government officials in the Criminal Misappropriation Case in continuation of an investigation related to the sheep distribution scheme scam.

Investigation revealed that private persons were allowed to take undue advantage and cause loss to the government exchequer. Funds worth Rs 2.10 crore were misappropriated.

According to the officials, the two government employees colluded and conspired with private persons. They resorted to illegal acts and violations in the course of the discharge of their duties.

They violated all the instructions issued for the procurement of sheep and deliberately involved private persons in the procurement process.

Investigation revealed that the officers instructed procurement officers and assistant directors to follow the orders of private persons.

The accused duo allowed sheep to be procured by government officials as dictated by private persons. Even the forms were filled by employees of private persons. Fake sellers' details were uploaded on the department's online portal, at the procurement location.

With a malafide intention, both deliberately forwarded the details of the fake sellers to the collector for disbursement of money to them. Fake sellers got money instead of genuine dealers.
