Suryapet: Police registered a case against social media influencer Sunny Yadav, aka Bayya Sunny Yadav, for promoting online betting apps.

Sunny Yadav is the second social media influencer in the Telugu States booked for promoting online betting apps as a means to earn easy money.

ā€˜Local Boyā€™ Nani held for promoting betting apps

Earlier, on February 22, Visakhapatnam Police in Andhra Pradesh arrested YouTuber ā€˜Local Boyā€™ Nani for allegedly promoting online betting apps. The arrest came after IPS officer and TGRTC VC and MD VC Sajjanar expressed outrage on betting influencers from his social media. Later, Nani was sent to judicial custody by the police.

On March 5, the Noothankal police of Suryapet Commissionerate registered a case following a complaint filed by Sajjanar. However, the complaint came to light on Wednesday when Sajjanar thanked Telangana DGP Dr Jitender and Suryapet SP K Narasimha on his X account.

ā€œIt is not right to kill innocent people for the sake of money. Influencers who promote betting apps should face legal repercussions. Influencers may have millions or lakhs of followers. If they do anything illegal for money, they should face severe legal consequences,ā€ Sajjanar warned.

Sunny Yadav endorsing online betting apps

As per the police, the complainant told them that he found a YouTuber named Bayya Sandeep, also known as Sunny Yadav, endorsing online betting apps through his social media accounts. In his videos, Sunny Yadav assured his followers that they could easily increase their income by making fewer investments.

Sunny Yadav has been a well-known YouTuber for a few years, sharing videos of bike riding online to attract subscribers and make money. However, the police said that he was dissatisfied with his earnings and allegedly conspired with online betting app managements and pushed his followers to invest in betting apps, promising easy money with little commitment.

By endorsing betting applications, Sunny Yadav was deceiving young people and generating losses through false advertising. His videos encourage youths to use gambling apps, which can result in monetary losses and, in certain situations, suicide. The videos indicate that investing small amounts might result in large profits, luring unemployed teenagers and others into gambling activities that can damage their jobs and lives, the complainant said.
