Hyderabad: After nearly a month-long lull, the southwest monsoon has made a much-awaited comeback in Telangana.

A low-pressure system over Odisha and adjoining regions has triggered widespread rainfall across the state in the last 48 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has now issued a heavy rainfall warning for 11 districts over the next three to four days.

Rainfall Alert for Northern and Eastern Telangana

IMD Hyderabad has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty surface winds at 30–40 kmph in the following districts:

Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Medak, and Kamareddy.

“We are currently observing a strong low-pressure influence that is enhancing monsoon activity in Telangana,” said meteorologist K. S. Sridhar, IMD Hyderabad, speaking to Newsmeter. “This system is expected to remain active for the next few days and could bring heavy rainfall, especially to the northern and eastern parts of the State.”

Hyderabad to See Moderate Showers and Strong Winds

In the capital, rainfall is expected to be moderate with brief, light spells and mostly cloudy skies over the next three to four days. IMD Hyderabad has forecast maximum temperatures around 33°C, along with surface winds at 30–40 kmph.

“Hyderabad will not see very intense rain, but persistent cloud cover and sporadic showers will bring down daytime temperatures slightly,” said Sridhar. “Wind speeds may pick up during evening hours, so precautions are advised.”

Rainfall Data: GHMC and Surrounding Areas

Rain gauges in the GHMC zone reported moderate rainfall between Monday evening and Tuesday morning. The highest recorded rainfall within city limits includes:

• BHEL Factory, Ramachandrapuram – 27.3 mm

• Tolichowki, Karwan – 26.4 mm

• Musheerabad, MCH Building – 24.8 mm

These totals indicate a gradual build-up of monsoon intensity.

Districts With Highest Rainfall So Far

Beyond Hyderabad, rural areas and mandals across the State recorded significantly higher rainfall in the same period:

• Wargal (Siddipet) – 63.3 mm

• Dandepally (Mancherial) – 61.5 mm

• Gummadidala (Sangareddy) – 58.8 mm

• Bandamadharam (Medchal-Malkajgiri) – 56.3 mm

“The monsoon has reactivated quite strongly in the central corridor of the State,” noted Sridhar. “This is crucial for the ongoing kharif crop cycle, especially in districts like Siddipet and Mancherial, where early sowing is underway.”

What Lies Ahead

The current low-pressure system is expected to maintain its strength over the next few days, continuing to fuel rainfall across Telangana.

“This revival comes at a critical time, especially after June recorded below-normal rainfall in several districts,” said Sridhar. “If the current trend holds, we may see the State catch up on its seasonal average by mid-July.”

Public Safety Measures

Authorities have advised residents in affected districts to remain alert. Commuters are urged to avoid waterlogged routes, while farmers are advised to secure standing crops and monitor weather updates regularly.
