Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) will hold a Special General Meeting (SGM) on September 14 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Uppal, to discuss amendments to its rules, regulations and bye-laws.

Acting president Sardar Daljeet Singh, who issued the notice, said the decision had been approved at the Apex Council meeting on August 8 and urged all affiliated members to attend.

Meeting overshadowed by arrests

The announcement comes against the backdrop of CID arrests of three senior office-bearers over alleged corruption in IPL ticket sales. The arrests have raised doubts over the credibility of the present Apex Council to drive reforms in the association.

Timing and legality challenged

Former cricketers, administrators and professionals have questioned the timing and legality of the move.

They pointed out that issues surrounding the adjourned Annual General Meeting (AGM) remain unresolved and asked whether the Apex Council currently has the quorum and authority to convene an SGM.

Status of 57 suspended member clubs

Concerns have also surfaced over the status of 57 suspended member clubs. Observers argue that excluding them from the meeting would erode transparency and weaken the legitimacy of any bye-law changes.

Allegations and moral questions

Critics highlighted that some office-bearers, including the joint secretary, face pending corruption allegations. Allowing individuals under scrutiny to alter bye-laws, they warned, could be used to shield interests rather than strengthen governance.

Acting president’s powers under lens

The authority of acting president Daljeet Singh has also come into question. Former administrators cautioned that a caretaker leader should not push through structural changes, calling the exercise hurried and morally unsound.
