Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police have issued a public advisory urging people to be vigilant against thefts and house burglaries during the Sankranti festival.

The advisory comes at a time when a large number of people are travelling to their native places to celebrate the Sankranti festival with their families.

Cyberabad DCP (Crimes) Muthyam Reddy said criminals often take advantage of locked houses during festival seasons. He stated that police have intensified night patrols and surveillance across the commissionerate limits to prevent thefts and ensure public safety.

The police have appealed to residents to cooperate and follow basic safety measures before leaving their homes unattended.

Enhanced police vigil and surveillance

DCP Muthyam Reddy said special night patrolling teams have been deployed in residential colonies and vulnerable areas. Police are closely monitoring suspicious movements and strengthening preventive policing measures during the festive period.

He stressed that public participation is crucial in preventing crimes and urged residents to immediately alert the police if they notice any suspicious activity.

Safety guidelines for those travelling during Sankranti

Home and Neighbourhood Security

Residents are advised to install CCTV cameras in houses, colonies, apartment complexes, and commercial areas.

Inform trusted neighbours about your travel plans and request them to keep an eye on your house.

Avoid leaving house keys or almirah keys inside the home; carry them with you.

After locking the house, cover the door lock area with a curtain so it is not visible from outside.

Switch on a light in one room to give the impression that the house is occupied.

Ensure garbage, newspapers, and milk packets do not accumulate outside the house, as this signals absence.

Vehicle safety measures

Do not leave valuables in scooter dickeys or inside parked cars.

Park two-wheelers and cars inside the house premises and not on the roads.

Use handle locks and wheel locks for vehicles parked outside.

Valuables and Personal Safety

Store gold, cash, and important valuables in bank lockers or carry them along if travelling for extended periods.

Avoid sharing information about valuables or financial matters with others.

While travelling, keep bags containing cash or jewellery close at all times.

Use of Technology for Home Security

Install timer-based lights, motion sensor lights, and home security systems.

CCTV cameras should cover entry and exit points, with DVRs placed in concealed locations.

Residents can monitor their homes through mobile-connected home surveillance systems.

Structural Safety Measures

Use strong, high-quality doors and advanced locking systems.

Independent houses should install grills on main doors for additional security.

Houses with weak locks, old grills, or poor lighting are more vulnerable to theft.

Community Cooperation and Police Coordination

Residents are encouraged to form colony-level vigilance committees.

Apartment watchmen should record details of new visitors, especially at night.

Police station numbers and beat constable contact details should be readily available.

Inform local police stations before leaving town so surveillance can be arranged.

Report Suspicious Activity Immediately

Any suspicious movement should be reported to Dial 100 or the Cyberabad Police WhatsApp number 9490617444.

Citizens should avoid sharing travel details on social media.

Police Assurance

Cyberabad Police said that with active public cooperation, thefts can be effectively prevented. Continuous coordination between residents and police will ensure a safe and peaceful Sankranti festival.
