Hyderabad: A day after 23-year-old student Pravallika died by suicide in Brindavan Girls Hostel, Ashoknagar in Chikkadpally, the police said that they found that Pravallika was pushed to take the extreme step after she felt she was cheated by her lover who had allegedly promised to marry her but later got engaged to marry another woman.
Pravallika was a native of Durgundi in Warangal district and she was staying in a hostel in Hyderabad. On Friday, she was found dead in the hostel with a suicide note.
Soon after the news of her death became public, students, who had been preparing for competitive exams, gathered in front of the hostel and raised slogans against the state government. They alleged Pravallika’s death was a result of the stress from the multiple cancellations and delays in the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) examination.
On Friday night, the protestors did not allow the police to shift the body of the deceased for post-mortem. “The mob also started pelting stones at the police. As a result, ACP KVR Satyanarayana and Saifabad SI Tharun were injured. With great difficulty the police were able to disperse the mob and take the body to the Gandhi Hospital,” said M Venkateshwarulu, the deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Central Zone.
After the completion of the post-mortem, Pravallika’s body was handed over to her parents.
The police who went through the WhatsApp conversations of the deceased found that she was in love with one Shivaram.
“Prior to her death, the deceased had shared her agony with her friends over WhatsApp. The chats clearly establish the estranged relationship as the cause of her suicide. But the political leaders from Congress and BJP gave a different colour to her death with their manipulative speeches and provoked the gathering, causing the traffic jam in Chikkadpally till late night,” said the DCP.
The police collected the suicide note and the cell phone of the deceased to examine them for further clues to her death. The police would send the chats she shared with Shivaram for retrieval for further investigation,” the DCP added.
