Hyderabad: In a stern warning to spa and massage centres, Cyberabad Police have made it clear that any form of sexual activity on the premises is strictly prohibited and will attract stringent legal action.

Officials also emphasised that spas must operate only between 9 am and 9 pm and should not be run in or connected to residential premises.

Awareness meet held with spa owners

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), Law & Order Wing and Special Operations Team (SOT) of Cyberabad Police jointly organised a coordination and awareness meeting with spa centre owners under Madhapur Zone on Friday.

The session was conducted at the Cyberabad Commissioner's Office Auditorium to sensitise owners on legal compliance and the need to remain vigilant against human trafficking.

Mandatory staff qualifications and records

Police informed spa owners that:

- All masseurs and masseuses must hold valid qualifications in Physiotherapy, Acupressure or Occupational Therapy.

- Details of all employees, including housekeeping staff, must be maintained, ensuring everyone is at least 18 years old.

- Centres must display their name, license number, working hours, services offered and fees prominently at the premises.

CCTV and complaints committee requirements

Authorities directed spas to install CCTV cameras at entrances, receptions and common areas, with recordings preserved for at least three months.

An Internal Complaints Committee under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act is mandatory for centres employing more than ten staff, and its details must be clearly displayed.

Customer registration as per court guidelines

As per Telangana High Court guidelines (2021), spas must maintain registers with names, verifiable addresses, phone numbers and visit dates of customers for police verification, especially in complaints involving opposite-sex services. The main entrance must remain open during operating hours.

Violations to attract legal action

Officials warned that any violation of these guidelines would invite penal action under relevant laws, and criminal activities would be dealt with strictly.
